Booma Women Cooperative

Situated in Mukuni Village near Livingstone in Zambia’s Southern Province, Booma Women Cooperative tells a proud tale of tradition and nature’s flavors, where local women sustainably harvest non-timber forest products like mongongo (Schinziophyton rautanenii) nuts from pristine forests. Established in 2023 with support from Challenge Fund, and Mendel . Czech-UNDP Challenge Fund ,and Mendel University in Brno, this eco-friendly venture transforms these ancient resources—gathered by women for over 12,000 years—into pure cooking oils, roasted nuts, cosmetic butters, lotions, and body scrubs that promote heart health, lower cholesterol, and nourish skin with antioxidants and fatty acids. By empowering women through value-added processing, Booma fosters economic growth, combats deforestation, and safeguards biodiversity, inviting tourists to experience authentic Zambian wellness rooted in community and conservation.
