NHCC Calls for increased security for tourists
The National Heritage and Conservation Commission (NHCC) in Livingstone has urged tour operators in the city to always provide guides to accompany tourists visiting the tourist posts in order to ensure their safety and security during their stay.
This follows an incident where two tourists were attacked and robbed of K97, 000 (over $9,000) at the lookout platform off Songwe road in Victoria Falls area last month.
In his letter to the Livingstone Tourism Association on 27th July, 2016, NHCC Regional Director Oliver Kandyata said his office has received saddening reports of toursists being attacked and robbed by criminals armed with knives and pangas.
"In view of these robberies, this letter serves to inform and advise you that tourists must always be accompanied by your tour guides when visiting tourist spots and in particular the lookout platform," Mr. Kandyata stated.
