Launched last year as part of Greenpop’s Trees for Zambia project, Earth Fest is an integral and recurring part of this Festival of Action. Earth Fest shows that we can have the time of our lives while ensuring the sustainability of our people and our planet. Earth Fest aims to highlight southern Africa's musical talent while also bringing together like-minded, forward-thinking individuals who hope to see a greener future for Africa.

The Earth Fest weekend opens on Friday 27 June at 18h00 with a night of traditional dancers, drumming, and DJs under the stars in the Greenpop Village at Livingstone Guest Farm. The party continues the next day at the Greenpop Village. Starting at 15h00 and through the afternoon, various exhibitions on sustainability and arts & crafts will be presenting at a fair. Then from 18h00, a selection of incredible bands from around southern Africa will perform. So far the line up includes the Chikenbus Band (Zimbabwe), DJ Claudous (Zambia), and Grassy Spark (South Africa). Greenpop is also very excited to announce that South African musician Jeremy Loops, a rising global star and one of the organisation's directors, will be popping into the project and treating the crowd to a few songs.

"Being in Zambia and having had time to visit the various sites where we've planted trees over the last few years - and of course, getting the chance to play music and add to the magic - is really something special for me. I cannot wait to be in Livingstone again, and to play at Earth Fest once more!”
- Jeremy Loops

About Greenpop

Greenpop is an environmental organization on a mission to (re)connect people with our planet. They believe greening and sustainable living can be fun, POPular and accessible for all. They believe in inspiring a greener, more conscious, inclusive movement and do this through tree planting projects, green events, education, social media, voluntourism and activating people to start DOING!

Since its inception in September 2010, Greenpop has planted over 40,100 trees in over 270 beneficiary schools, crèches, orphanages, old-age homes, community centers, and deforested areas in Zambia and South Africa. Creative tree-care programs have been implemented and children, community members, corporates and volunteers are getting their hands dirty, learning a lot and loving it. www.greenpop.org

In 2012 Greenpop launched Trees for Zambia, a reforestation and eco-awareness project which began with a 3-week tree planting event and was followed by an ongoing campaign to inspire awareness about deforestation, climate change, tree planting, environmental sustainability and alternative energy sources.

Trees for Zambia 2014 will be the third festival of action hosted in Livingstone to boost the project. From 15 June to 6 July, Greenpop aims to plant between 4000 and 5000 trees in schools, on subsistence farms and in reforestation sites. Once again Greenpop will host educational workshops for school children, subsistence farmers and volunteers. Additionally, for the first time, Greenpop is launching its interactive Participation Project, in which volunteers can contribute their own skills and expertise by educating others on issues relevant to environmental awareness and sustainability. Trees for Zambia is a holistic awareness campaign based on getting people active about making sustainable changes.
